The Acting Director-General of the Rivers state Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency, retired ACP Uche Chukwuma has come under fire over his appointment by Governor Nyesom Wike.
The Youth wing of the Buhari Campaign Organization said Uche Chukwuma was appointed by Governor Wike to conclude a script he allegedly started in 2013.
Leader of the pro-All Progressive Congress group, Chimdi Owhorji told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the Acting DG of the Neighborhood Watch played a key role in destabilizing the state under former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
He added that Uche Chukwuma, who is from Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area
also testified in favour of Governor Wike at the 2015 elections petition tribunal and had a close relationship with the current governor.
“That man is a retired police officer with questionable character.
“Uche Chukwuma was the man who testified against the APC at the tribunal after the 2015 election.
“He led the onslaught against members of the APC when they led a protest at Rumuola where he shot rubber bullets to disperse the protesters. Is this the kind of man that wants to head Neighborhood Watch.
“This has confirmed our fears that Governor Wike has perfected plans to unleash another round of violence on his targets who are APC.
“In 2015 all the security agencies worked for him (Wike) but now that he lost grip of the security he wants to build his own army. All we want is for the Inspector General of Police to do all he can to stop Wike from going ahead with this obnoxious Neighborhood Watch Law,” Chimdi said.
When contacted, ACP Uche Chukwuma said he could only speak after his inauguration by Governor Wike.
