Burnaboy Wins Grammy Award Makes History

Burnaboy Wins Grammy Award Makes History…
Burnaboy once said in his song African Giant, “I know say one day he go better i go carry Grammy. Because everything wey better require planning.” He lost the award to fellow African Angelique Kidjo last year, after coming close to achieving his dream of a lifetime with an album he put so much sweath, hardwork, dedication, and time to. No doubt ‘African Giant’ was one of the best album out of Africa last season, many would have given up on it like it wont happen. If i cant do it with an album that makes a statement as ‘African Giant’, i cant do it again. Not Burnaboy. He went to his drawing board, put ‘African Giant’ aside, and worked on another album with more determination, a more experienced team, and and an eye on the Grammy. The result ‘Twice As Tall’, another album that made a statement that he came better prepared for the Grammy this time, and he won twice at the 63rd Grammy awards 2021.

First, he made history as the first Nigerian artiste to perform at the Grammy Awards. His Medley that is composed of the following songs ‘Level Up’, ‘Onyenka’, and ‘Ye’, is the best Medley i have watched all my life. He sold Nigeria to the world in the best way. The video opened in the landscape of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja and progressed to the National stadium where Burnaboy and his band performed Level Up, then progressed to Onyenka, and rounded up a sensational performance of Ye. I couldn’t help but applaud Burnaboy, and his band soon as the performance ended. I must confess i wished it lasted longer.

He made history again as the First Nigerian musician to win a Grammy Award and the first contemporary African musician to achieve this feat, when the moment every African that tuned in to the 63rs Grammy Awards Live Broadcast, waited for, came. The winner announcement of the Best Global Music Album category on which he was nominated. Twitter and other social media apps went abuzz when Burnaboy was announced the winner against Antibalas, Babel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar, and Tinariwen.

Burnaboy jumped in joy and celebrated with his family as the award was held visually due to the Corona Virus restrictions, and said the following:

“Africa is in the house mehn, Africa we are in the house. You get me, this is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world. And this should be a lesson to every African around the world, no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to achieve, you can do it. No matter where you are from, you are a king. I mean look at me now, Grammy Award Winning Burnaboy. Thank you to everyone. My whole family is here, everyone is here. Namix is here, Namix won kere ninu aye, you nor understand. Sanoyejo baba wanbi kokeresinu aye. Outsiders wanbi kokeresinu aye. Olorun. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

Typical African Giant, Burnaboy style. From us here is congratulations to Burnaboy and his team. Its a big win fir Africa. We dominate the World Music Album Category again.
