Edge made a surprise appearance at SummerSlam back in August where he speared Elias in the middle of the ring.
This was the first time since his retirement in 2011 that The Rated R-Superstar had got physical in the ring, and naturally, this sparked the talk of a possible return to the ring for a match.
According to PWInsider, Edge has signed a new deal with WWE that has a pretty nice upside, and they’ve speculated it could lead to him returning soon.
They’ve speculated WWE fans will see Edge next at the 2020 Royal Rumble before WWE pushes him hard for a match at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, and possibly a few more matches before and after that event.
PWInsider noted as well that The Rated R-Superstar continues to deny that he is returning to the ring, but more and more evidence supports the speculation regarding his in-ring return.
Edge said on his podcast after SummerSlam earlier this year that he could have another WWE match if doctors cleared him to compete, which may have already happened.
A few months ago, he was in Pittsburgh for WWE business, which is also where WWE Wellness Policy head Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered, so it’s not far-fetched to speculate he could have been cleared already.
There will be plenty of superstars that will be lining up to feud with the former WWE Champion as well if he is able to return to the squared circle.
Certainly, WWE fans would love to see Edge back in a ring for another match, but only if it’s safe for him to compete.
We’ve seen superstars in the past like Daniel Bryan recover from career-ending injuries and be cleared by WWE medical staff to have another match.
Obviously, Edge’s case is different from Bryan’s, but the man does do his own stunts on the television shows he works on. His body has healed over the past eight years since he retired from the ring.
Given the recent news of Edge’s new contract with WWE, it may only be a matter of time before we see him inside the squared circle again for another match.
