Not Too Young to Run: Coast clearer for Igbo presidency – Ohanaeze Youths

The Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide, OYCW, weekend, hinted on the possibility of a youth from the South-East running against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.

DAILY POST recalls that Buhari had while signing the Not Too Young to Run Bill, asked the youths not to run against him in 2019.

However, in a press statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide and Comrade Obinna Achuonye, Deputy President General, the group said the Not Too Young to Run Act had opened a new hope in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The youth group said “we observed President Buhari begging the youths not to run against him in 2019. Does it mean that Mr. President knows that any youth running in 2019 will win? Does the governors, senators know this fact, especially in the southeast where IPOB/MASSOB collapsed the system on Biafra day celebration.

“Igbo youths will meet and decide on the Not Too Young to Run Act and the forthcoming Igbo youth town hall meeting being organized by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths by August 2018.

“It is expected that many Igbo youths will run for governors and national assembly elections in 2019 and any governor above 60 should be losing sleep over the 2019 election.”

They called on President Buhari to “strengthen democracy by either running against a youth from the South east or accept a youth from the zone as his running mate in 2019, and hand over to such person in 2023. Not Too Young to Run has given hope for an Igbo president in 2019 or 2023.

“Not Too Young to Run will give political parties opportunities to field young credible candidates with fresh and vibrant ideas in 2019, and our governors should be worried about it having witnessed IPOB/MASSOB strength in the Southeast in the last two years.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths will liaise with these agitators to decide who occupies our government houses, Senate and House of Reps in 2019; it’s a sure bet and no lobbying can change it.”
