Pogba values World Cup and Champions League glory over Ballon d’Or

The midfielder is rated as one of football’s most talented players, but he is focused on winning the game’s biggest trophies and not the award

Paul Pogba has affirmed that he would rather pick up winner’s medals at the World Cup and in the Champions League than receive the individual honour of the Ballon d’Or.

The Manchester United midfielder has watched on, along with the rest of the football world, as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have made a clean sweep of the award for the last decade.

But the likes of Pogba, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are tipped to be regular contenders once the Liga pair’s reign comes to an end.

Speaking on Sunday, however, Pogba admitted that he is focused on team glory.

“I want to win a World Cup and Champions League and to be the best. The Ballon d’Or is more a dream than an objective,” he explained to Canal Football Club .

“You can be a happy guy and win the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldinho is an example for that.”

The ex-Juventus star is expected to be a key part of the France team that seeks to regain the World Cup which Les Bleus won for the first and only time in 1998.

And he revealed that he is more than motivated one month ahead of the tournament’s start.

“France will try to be the boss in and out of the pitch during the World Cup,” he added.

“As for me, I was the best youngster in 2014, I’ll try to be the best player now.”

Pogba was given just six minutes on the field in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday, coming on for Michael Carrick, who received a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd in his last game as a professional.

The Frenchman, meanwhile, will be back in action for United’s final game of the season, next week’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.
