Retired Ghana Footballer, Yakubu Abubakar, Is Dead

Former Black Stars player, Yakubu Abubakar has been reported dead..

The former Ajax and Vitesse player, died at age 36 at the Tema Government Hospital in Accra.

The unfortunate incident happened Tuesday afternoon after the player who was on oxygen support gave up the ghost

Ghana’s FA also confirmed his passing on twitter, as they tweeted;

“We’re sad to hear the death of former Ghana, Ajax and Vitesse midfielder Abubakar,” “Our thoughts are with his family. May his soul RIP.”

Abubakar played a key role in helping Ghana qualify for their first FIFA World Cup in 2006 but failed to make the list for the finals in Germany.

He played for Ajax from 1999 to 2005 and Vitesse from 2005 to 2009. He also had 16 caps for Ghana as a Black Stars player.
