Road projects: Nsukka communities applaud Gov. Ugwuanyi, Enugu lawmaker

Residents of Lejja and Eha-Alumona communities in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, weekend, hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi over the government’s plans to commence work on the Lejja Road as well as the Eha-Alumona-Eha-Ndiagu-Mbu Road.

The commendation came during a town hall meeting organized for the Nsukka East Constituency, which featured the member representing the area in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Nwamba.

Residents of the affected communities were delighted over the lawmaker’s disclosure that the two roads were included in the 2018 budget of the State.

Nwamba had in his speech disclosed that “The synergy between the Enugu State Executive Council and the Legislative arm is paying off so much in the area of infrastructural development and the peace we are enjoying in the State.

“We can all see the quality work done on the Opi Nsukka Road as well as other roads within the University town and beyond.

“Already, we have made effort to see that the Eha-Alumona-Mbu Road was included in this year’s budget, so also is the Lejja Road. His Excellency, the Governor, is very keen on these roads.

“And one remarkable thing about this government is that it is operating a realistic budget. Unlike some states that will just reel out a bogus budget which they hardly implement, Enugu’s budget implementation is always from 70 percent and above.

“Enugu is among the top three states on realistic budget. That is why the budget is working, that is why workers are being paid, even 13th month. So, our people have the governor’s assurance that these two very critical roads will receive due attention.”

On his other activities in the House, Nwamba, who is the House committee chairman on anti-corruption, said apart from his human empowerment programmes, he had sponsored very important bills and motions, including bill to control nomadic cattle rearing and motion on urgent public importance, which borders on the alleged exploitation of the masses by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC.

“I know the sufferings people are going through, and we have been doing our best to ameliorate the condition of those conditions,” he further stated.

Earlier, the facilitators of the meeting, Advocacy Partnership for Good Governance, APAGG, led by the coordinator, Barr. Crownwell Chibuzo said the programme was intended “to draw a fresh progressive map for more enlightening and impactful development, a situation where the constituents understand the vision and activities of legislator and government in order to place themselves better for potential opportunities.”
