Real Betis have confirmed the appointment of Rubi as the club’s new head coach, following the payment of the release clause in his contract at Espanyol.
The 49-year-old opted to leave the Catalan club, where he managed a seventh-place finish in LaLiga Santander and a spot in the Europa League qualifying rounds.
Rubi has previously coached in the top flight of Spanish football with Sporting Gijon and Levante.
Before joining Espanyol, he guided Huesca to LaLiga Santander in his only season in charge, having previously coached at Real Valladolid, Girona, Benidorm, Ibiza, Espanyol B, Sabadell, Hospitalet and Vilassar de Mar.
In the 2013/14 campaign, Rubi was an assistant at Barcelona for Tito Vilanovaand Gerardo Martino.
