Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has left the country for New York in other to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72).
It is understood that the President’s aircraft left on Sunday morning at exactly 10:45 am, from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Before his arrival at the airport, the Presidential Guard was already on standby at the Presidential Wing of the Airport together with other ministers.
Also on board with the President are the Governors of Ondo Rotimi Akeredolu, Abubakar Yari of Zamfara and Dave Omahi of Ebony states as well as the President’s Spokesman, Femi Adesina.
Adesina had disclosed the president’s travel plans on Friday, saying “President Buhari will transit through London on his way back to the country”.
The Nigerian leader had returned to the country from the UK, where he received medical treatment, on August 19, after spending almost 104 days in London.
It is not clear if he is “transiting” through London for another round of medical treatment.
However, the presidential spokesman had said that the President would deliver the country’s national statement in New York.
According to him, the theme for this year’s debate is: ‘focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet’.
“Equally, the Nigerian leader will hold a lunch meeting with President Donald Trump of the United States of America, along with other world leaders,” he had said.
