Early Life

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy was born on the 2nd of July 1991 in Rivers State (Port Harcourt), Nigeria. His father Samuel Ogulu was a welding company manager and his mother Bosede Ogulu worked as a translator.

His grandfather Benson Idonije was the manager of Nigeria’s legendary Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, this has been the main reason why Burna Boy has been so much attracted to Fela Anikulapokuti songs and it reflects in his singing pattern.

Burna Boy at a very young age of 10 started writing songs, he was encouraged by his classmate who gave him a copy of FruityLoops used to make beats, he makes beats for himself at a tender age.

He is the firstborn and the only son out of the three siblings of his parents, others are girls. His family is known to be fully immersed in music although education is also taken seriously.


Burna Boy had his primary school education at Montessori International Primary School Port Harcourt Rivers State, Nigeria, he also attended Corona Secondary School in Agbara (Ogun State) for his secondary school education level and got his first leaving certificate.

Damini Ogulu started his career at a very tender age of 10, we earlier mentioned that he got a copy of FruityLoops (FL Studio) from his classmate which he installed on an old computer and started using it to make beats.
